Lyrics for Take a Ride:

Appaloosa Song (and Calypso-oosa)
Appaloosa, palomino,
pinto, chestnut, bay,
There's a buckskin and a brown one,
Let's take a ride today!

I see a black one a grey one too,
Different colors like me and you,
Short or thin, or big or tall,
It makes no difference to me at all.

Individual and special,
God's wonderful mystery.
See them running, see them jumping,
They play like you and me.

Old or young I'm sure you'll say,
Each unique in their own way,
Appaloosa, palomino, pinto, chestnut, bay.

Appaloosa means spotted,
Palomino is the color of the sun.
A pretty pintos' also spotted
But his are bigger ones.

A shiny penny outlined in black,
That could describe a bay,
The red leaves in the autumn time,
A chestnut often looks that way.

Now be careful with the grey horse,
Some want to call him white,
But the white horse has pink eyes,
The greys' are black and bright.

A buckskin horse is dressed in tan,
Black and brown, you can understand.

Appaloosa, palomino, pinto,
chestnut, bay,
Individual and special,
Unique in their own way,
Each unique in their own way.

Take a Ride
I'm gonna sit in the saddle and take a ride,
The stirrups hang down on the sides.
I scoot my seat and say, "walk on",
The girth is what keeps the saddle on.

I have two reins, one in each hand.
I use them gently to command.
One for the left, the other for the right,
My thumbs I use, to hold them down tight.

Now when I want to stop my pony it's easy you know,
Sit up straight and then say "Whoa".
Pull straight back.
Don't look down.
Elbows to your sides, and keep your hands down.

I'm gonna sit in the saddle and take a ride,
The stirrups hang down on the sides.
I scoot my seat and say, "walk on",
The girth is what keeps the saddle on.
And this is the end of my take a ride song

The Bridle Song
The bridle sits on the horses head,
It's made up of many pieces.
And if I concentrate real hard
I'll sing them all to you.

One BIT in his mouth,
Two REINS are hooked there
Two CHEEK PIECES run up the sides.
The CROWN on the top lays behind his ears
The BROW BAND above his eyes.
The NOSE BAND goes around his nose.
The THROAT LATCH we hook on the side.

(Repeat!)

Dreaming of a Pony - Instrumental

A Righteous Man
Chorus:
Oh, a righteous man cares for the needs of his animals,
Proverbs twelve verse ten, it's true
A righteous man cares for the needs of his animals,
Please read it in the bible too.

Well, if you've ever seen a horse you know, he has a really big size
So it takes a bunch of food, just to keep him alive.
He needs lots of fresh water and a nice clean home,
And he doesn't like to be alone.
A righteous man cares for the needs of his animals.

Did you know that a horse can drink from a garden hose?
And if something smells funny, he can turn up his nose.
He talks in his sleep, and he plays with toys.
Splashes in puddles like girls and boys.
A righteous man cares for the needs of his animals.

Chorus

In the beginning God made the heavens and the earth
Everything you see, even littl ebugs crawlin' in the dirt.
And part of the plan, when He created man
Was that we care for the creatures of His land

Chorus

Blacksmith  Blues
Oh the blacksmith's job is to nail on the horses shoes
Yea the blacksmith's job  is to nail on the horses shoes
It ain't easy, let's sing the blacksmith blues

When he shapes that shoe, listen to me sing
You can hear that anvil ring

Oh the blacksmith's job is to nail on the horses shoes
It ain't easy, let's sing the black smith blues

Twinkle in his eye and his poor back bent
That's how his whole day is spent

Oh the blacksmiths job is to nail on the horses shoes
It ain't easy, let's sing the blacksmith blues.

Snip, snip, rasp, rasp, tap, tap the blacksmith blues
My ponies gonna get a shiny new set of shoes
It ain't easy let's sing the blacksmith blues

(Speaking)
Horses hooves are like big fingernails.  When they get
too long we need to trim them. So the blacksmith,
which we call a 'farrier', can properly trim your
horses feet.  Sometimes horse shoes are gonna be
helpful and the farrier can carefully nail them to
your horses hooves.  They know just where to put the
horseshoe nails and it won't hurt the horse one bit.

Clippty clop, all day long
A horses feet sing the sweetest song

Yea the blacksmith's job is to nail on the horses shoes
It ain't easy let's sing the blacksmith blues
It ain't easy let's sing the blacksmith blues

Whoa Buddy
Chorus:
What's that sound I'm hearin'?
Whoa now buddy, whoa
What's that thing I'm seein'?
Whoa now buddy, whoa

Well a horse gets scared very easily,
Sights and smells and sounds
Could be something as simple as
A little piece of paper flutterin' on the ground
Whoa now buddy, whoa

Chorus

If you run through the barn while they're in their stalls
They try to run too
Oh, there must be somethin' wrong
He wants to run away just like you
Whoa now buddy, whoa

You can learn to trust a horse
And he can trust you
But if you ever startle him,
There's a lot of scary things that he might do
Whoa now buddy, whoa

Chorus

Whoa now buddy, whoa,
Whoa now buddy, whoa

Heels Down Boogie
I'm here to tell you anyone can learn to ride a horse,
Yea, it's fun goin' fast or slow.
But when you're startin' out well you need a little help,
There's a couple of things you aughta know
Sing with me
Hey, Hey
Come on here we go

Chorus:
Ya keep your heels down and your toes pointed up to the sky
Ya keep your heels down and your toes pointed up to the sky
Ya let your hips sway back and forth and dip side to side.

Now you've gotta keep your feet and your hips movin' right,
The next thing ya gotta keep in mind
Your ear and your shoulder and your hip and your heel,
Try to keep to um in a nice straight line
Lift your rib cage up,
And sit deep,
Yea you're doing fine

Chorus

Practice hard and it won't be long,
You'll be rockin' in the saddle with ease.
Sittin' up tall with a great big smile,
Just as happy as you can be
Everything you learned,
By now
Will come naturally.

Chorus

Western Saddle
Come along child and take a trip with me,
We're gonna ride a horse across the wide prairie.
Where the breeze is warm and the air smells sweet,
Hear the clip clop sound of your pony's feet.
Hear the clip clop sound of your pony's feet.

Chorus: And we'll gallop along and sing a cowboy's song
Yo da le de O da la de all day long
Ya got great big stirrups for to cradle your feet,
A western saddle has a horn but it doesn't go beep
A western saddle has a horn but it doesn't go beep

Whoa back horse we need a break I think,
Dip your nose into the creek and take a good long drink.
Fill your belly full of grass while I sit in the shade,
We're gonna eat a littlle jerky that my grandpa made
We're gonna eat a littlle jerky that my grandpa made

Chorus

Well, if you wanna ride a horse but there's none to be found,
It's easy to imagine that you're trottin' one around.
Just tell him "giddy up", give him any ole name.
Pretend to sink your fingers in his long, soft mane.
Pretend to sink your fingers in his long, soft mane.

Chorus

Come along child and take a trip with me,
We're gonna ride a horse across the wide prairie.
Where the breeze is warm and the air smells sweet,
Hear the clip clop sound of your pony's feet.
Hear the clip clop sound of your pony's feet.

Quiet Hands
Chorus:
Quiet hands, quiet hands, sit still and have quiet hands
Relax, heels down and don't fidgit around,
Sit still and have quiet hands

Oh Jet, he's a little black horse
A better could never be found
He'll trot all day long, with his neck stretched down,
As his pretty hooves tickle the ground
But listen to me if you can
Oh try real hard to understand
You won't have a fun ride.
If Jet's nervous inside
Cause you didn't have quiet hands.

Chorus
Next we have ole Romeo
He's taught many a person to ride
He'll safely fly across the hillside,
He's a gentleman wrapped in horse hide
But listen to me if you can,
Oh try real hard to understand
Ole Romeo will bolt you know,
If you don't have quiet hands

Chorus

Misty so cute an so sweet.
A little pinto that's barely horse size
A bushy forelock hides those round soft eyes,
So gentle and kind and wise.
But listen to me if you can,
Oh try real hard to understand
She's as good as gold,
But won't do what she's told,
If you don't have quiet hands

Chorus

Goodnight to the Horses

I love to go in the horses barn,
At the end of each happy day
Oh the sound of our spirited four-legged friends,
Contentedly munching their hay

Chorus:
Stars twinkle above, they are happy at rest
Speak softly and walk very slow
Settling down, there's hardly a sound
It's the horses bedtime you know

As I pass by their stalls. a sweet nicker I hear
Goodnight they all seem to say
The old faithful paint, and the chestnut mare,
The roan horse and the fat dapple grey.

Chorus

The little barn swallow was busy all day
She's sleepin' in the rafters on high
I'll bend down to pat the yellow barn cat
And softly whisper goodnight

Chorus
